THE DIAGNOSIS: DICHOTOMY TEETH #14 AND #12

A mother and her 8-year-old daughter addressed a pedodontist, complaining of the child’s teeth #54 and #52 slight mucous membrane bosselation. In the course of the physical examination, the patient was offered her upper and lower jaws X-ray inspection for further diagnosis specification.

The orthopantomogram shows that the upper jaw teeth #54 and #52 are at the root resorption stage.  Besides, the inspection revealed two pairs of permanent teeth buds #14 and #12 in that region. Therefore, dichotomy teeth #14 and #12 diagnosis was radiographically confirmed.

This medical condition is treated surgically. The patient is recommended to postpone surgery procedures until the physiological replacement of teeth #52 and #54 by teeth #12 and #14 takes place. The girl was registered in dispensary for diseases at the orthodontist’s and recommended to have medical examinations at the dentist’s once in every 3 months.
