S-RAY- A DENTAL SCANNER THAT DOESN’T USE X-RAYS

Dentistry is an ever-evolving field, and new technologies pop up every day that allow doctors to carry out their work more efficiently and in a professional manner with minimal harm to the patient.

Today, dentistry isn’t dentistry without X-rays. Using X-ray machines, doctors can correctly diagnose diseases. As it is well-known, every X-ray machine emits radiation and therefore every patient receives a small dose, and although a person doesn’t feel it, it may have an effect on the body. For many years, scientists have taken steps to minimize the radiation dose.

A Seattle biotech company has introduced a novelty that in the near future may replace X-ray machines on the dental market – the S-RAY digital scanner. The device can connect to a tablet or computer and performs the functions of a digital X-ray machine. The scanner uses ultrasound scanning technology, which is safe for pregnant women, meaning it’s safe for anybody.

Another difference is that the new scanner is very small compared to standard X-ray machines and this makes it extremely convenient. With the S-RAY, dentists can diagnose many diseases such as caries and its complications, periodontal disease; and it’s even possible to make a 3D model of a tooth.

S-RAY gives dental professionals the opportunity to get high-quality images of teeth in mere seconds without causing the patient any discomfort.

Experts predict that the new scanner will cost less than a conventional X-ray machine, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of many dentists because of the cost-to-benefit ratio, making it a must-have for every dentistry practice.

At the moment, the developers are working on getting fully licensed, so we’ll be seeing it on the market very soon.
